Shiftgig customers frequently ask us how to build a consistent, reliable team with the best possible gig workers. To walk them through best practices and show how it’s it’s actually done in our app, we recently hosted a Shiftgig 101 webinar (you can download the on-demand version here) focused on building an All Star team of gig workers. We received several questions throughout during the live session but weren’t able to answer them all. We’re tackling a few more of the submitted questions here:
Is there a limit on how many All Stars I can give out?
No, there’s no limit on the amount of All Star designations you can give to Specialists. In fact, we encourage our customers to regularly All Star any specialists who exceed expectations. As you designate more All Stars, you also deepen your talent pool of qualified, reliable specialists.
When a Specialist is marked as a All Star, he or she is automatically given early access to any of your future shifts. All-Stars help fill your shifts with familiar and preferred Specialists so you can be confident the team will perform well.
If there aren’t a sufficient number of All-Starred Specialists available to fill your shifts, we will open the event to eligible Veterans. Veterans are Specialists who have worked at least two shifts for you in the past 30 days.
Will a Specialist be blocked from other clients' shifts if I block them?
No, Specialists will only be blocked from seeing or claiming any of your upcoming shifts. We understand that finding the right mix of Specialists is different for every customer and we work hard to ensure the Specialists are the right fit for your business.
But sometimes things just don’t work out. You have the option to Block a Specialist if they came to work for you in the past, but you don’t want them to work for you in the future. Typically, we recommend blocking Specialists for the following reasons:
- They failed to follow instructions and perform the work required
- They were argumentative or had a bad attitude
- They are a current or former direct employee
What are some examples or traits of an All Star Specialist?
We skill tag all our Specialists before they’re able to pick up any work in our app so they’ll never see work for which they’re not qualified. (For example, someone who is not verified as a server will never see those types of shifts in the app.) Many customers have found that Specialists with soft skills such as coachability, good attitudes and a willingness to learn are more likely to be designated as All Stars. We also recently spoke to a few Specialists who found success by being their own brand and always being prepared.
Blocking is anonymous, but will a Specialist know if they have been blocked at all?
Specialists will not know if you’ve blocked them. Having said that, our goal is to actively manage our Specialists’ performance and coach whenever necessary. We’ll work with individual Specialists to ensure they’re aware of any performance, discipline or attendance issues so they’re not repeated with any other Shiftgig customers.
