Having a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program is a great way for companies to not only give back to the community, but also provide a feeling of value for employees. In fact, today’s workers are looking for much more than a typical nine to five job; they want a workplace with purpose, and a CSR program is one way to provide this.
There are many different aspects a CSR program can focus on, including sustainability efforts, donations, volunteering, and much more. By building a CSR program that supports the values and mission of a company, employees will be empowered to not only make a difference in the community, but support their company in its overall vision.
Here at Shiftgig, our mission is to connect millions of people with millions of shifts in order to create financial opportunity for the hourly workforce. Our goal is to make a difference in the way people work, and our CSR program was built with this same mission in mind.
Laura Holterman, Shiftgig’s Milwaukee Account Manager, is a strong advocate of the company’s CSR program, saying, “This was the first year I have been able to dedicate volunteer time to an organization I care about. Other companies have promised me this benefit but never actually allowed any employees to take time off. Thank you to Shiftgig for giving me the time to help the greater good.”
Here is how Shiftgig’s CSR program is working to contribute toward the greater good:
Paid Volunteer Days
Shiftgig allows full-time employees two paid days per year to volunteer with a charity of their choice. Entire departments or multiple departments together will often choose to participate in a volunteer day as a group, helping to simultaneously boost camaraderie within the office while also making a difference in the local community. Read about a recent CSR day here where a group of more than 30 Shiftgig employees worked together to mulch a local Chicago park and community center.
Donated Worker Hours
Shiftgig’s CSR program takes its commitment a step further when employees nominate a non-profit organization to support through donated worker hours once each quarter. Most recently this June, we donated the hours of four Shiftgig workers to a local Chicago organization called Holiday Heroes. The Shiftgig workers helped support their annual gala, called “Heroes of the Night,” which raised more than $170,000 for the organization.
